Michelle Sanabria
I stayed here a night after hurricane Zeta as my Airbnb had no power and stumbled into a world of compassionate and caring hosts who do all they can to make sure you are comfortable. I was so enamored with this hotel that I stayed a second night. So where do I begin? Let’s start with Alejandro, the man who greets you over the phone during the post-hurricane apocalypse and calmly says “I have one more room available and I can hold it for you until you get here, Michelle”. The man who greets you every night, every morning, and every time he sees you in between with a smile and an inquiry on how you’re doing. The man who stays up all hours to feed diesel to the generator so that even when all the rest of Playa del Carmen suffers in the AC-less heat, you can sleep peacefully. The man who single handedly runs the show, calls you by name, checks to see if you are rested, gives excellent recommendations for local spots, and unfortunately the man whose business is suffering because of COVID and 2 destructive hurricanes. Despite these difficulties, Hotel Morgana is still a delightful place to stay. It’s location is unparalleled. It’s is a street away from bustling 5th Avenue but gives you some distance nonetheless. It is exceptionally quiet to sleep here. Being on the north side of the city, you avoid the throngs of party goers who flock to Calle 12-20 and exchange them for live music at the wine bar around the corner, the freshest seafood restaurant in playa down the street, and cute tostada places steps away. The rooms are large and luxurious with the most comfortable bedding and beds I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying since being in Mexico. Seriously, the sheets are SO soft. The WiFi is good, the AC is strong, the shower is beautiful, there is a small fridge to keep your delicious French pastries from a few blocks down the road fresh for later, and large windows to let in beautiful natural light (with some EXCELLENT curtains that keep the light out well past 10:30 am if you like it like that). There is a restaurant and pool on the rooftop which I could not enjoy due to the storm but if it is like anything else this hotel offers, it will be fun, stylish, and doused in top notch service. Trust me, stay here.
